Have You Seen The Devil?
A preacher was headed to Hamilton, Alabama one day when it happened. As he drove down Highway 43, he saw the Devil. He came upon someone driving a full-size truck pulling an 8 X 10 foot trailer. The passing lane on his side became available and the fella in the truck threw out his arm from the truck and motioned for him to come on around him. The preacher was about to pull out when down at the foot of the hill, a car in the other lane started up the hill. He might have been able to pass him, but it would have been close – too close. The fella in the truck still wanted him to come around him.
When they got to a straight part in the highway, the guy in the truck motioned for him to come on around him again. There was just one problem – the lines were double-lined, suggesting that no one was to pass on either side. He declined his invitation and stayed behind the truck. Soon, the road became a four lane for a short distance and he was able to pass him and continued on his journey. As the preacher looked back, he tried to get a good look at the driver that he had almost entrusted his life to (This is a true story told by Don Williams).
What can we learn from this story and our lesson during worship? Satan will try to get us to take chances in life, even if there is danger just ahead. Just like he did to Adam and Eve, he wants us to break the rules (laws) and live as we desire. Don’t worry about the consequences.
In our scripture text last week, we learned that we must not be ignorant of Satan’s devices, but we often are. Like the story above, he can be a man in a paneled truck, a beautiful girl in suggestive clothing inviting us to lust, or a friend encouraging to drink a beer with the group. Whatever he is, however he dresses or appears, we better be aware of his schemes.
Before worship, please read 1Peter 5:8
